At QMPA we believe that writing is very much linked to the development of vocabulary. We teach writing in our school through the Talk4Writing approach. This ensures our pupils learn new words, are story tellers and rehearse their sentences orally, learning the tune of a text, allowing them to feel more confident and motivated to write, before putting pen to paper. The Talk4Writing sequence also enables us to exemplify to our pupils, the progress they are making towards becoming successful and proud writers.
At Queen Margaret Primary Academy, we use Talk4Writing to deliver an exciting and engaging literacy curriculum. Based on developing the children’s ability to read and write through oral storytelling, the children learn both stories and nonfiction texts specially selected to promote both a love of reading and writing.
Talk4Writing is a nationally recognised approach to teaching literacy and we are fortunate that Pie Corbett, who leads and continues to develop this approach, works closely with us.
